As an elementary school teacher, I'm experienced in working with students in all elementary school grades and very familiar with the common core. I also present writing and publishing workshops for adults.

Development Workshops:
Making the Ordinary Extraordinary!
Students often feel they have nothing to write about because everything they do is boring. Author will demonstrate creating a quick draft using a mundane event, such as eating breakfast or sitting waiting for the doctor. Using dialogue, action, and thoughts/feelings, author will demonstrate how even the most boring situations can be made interesting by the way it is told. Students will quick draft an event from that day and practice making the ordinary extraordinary.
Characters Create Plot
In this small group workshop, participants will get a chance to develop a character, discover his or her flaws, choose a setting, and plot a story. We will discuss how a character's traits, wants, and flaws influence their decisions and change their plot.
Revision Workshop:
Good narratives include a mixture of dialogue, action, and thoughts/ feelings.
After author leads students in analyzing a few examples of text, students will underline a previous piece of writing in red, green, and blue to find dialogue, action, thoughts/feelings. Students will practice quick revision to include more of the color they are missing. At the end of the session, student will share their revise work and get feedback.

I am happy to tailor presentations to your needs and/or curricula. If there is another area of focus, let me know and we can work together to craft a program that fits the needs of your students.
